I'm sometimes grieved, incensed and incredulous at how seeming reasonable people can observe the futility in themselves and throughout the world produced by ungratefulness, falsehood, cruelty, despair, pride and self-worship, and yet persist in their refusal to approach the God of Hope and Love.
The invitation of Jesus Christ is astounding beyond measure. He declared His love by taking to Himself our brokenness, our sin and its condemnation, and yes, our depravity, despair and futility. He swears by the life He gave over, and the very blood that flowed from it, that if you’ll come to Him, a brand new life is yours. He swears to give you the very same Spirit and power that raised Him from the dead, and exalted Him as ruler of all things.
For His children He promises to mend broken hearts, break off our afflictions, bust open our prisons, and pour on us abundant gladness and joy. He swears to us a freedom only possible to children whose Father loves them enough to wring out His heart for them. Freedom to flourish, to create, to bless and inspire others. Freedom FROM bondage, TO the joy unspeakable and full of glory. Freedom to personally know and experience the boundless powers and pleasures of Heaven, right now. And, the extreme privilege of joining Him in communicating them to those thirsty and hungry for an authentic life.
I'm sometimes grieved, incensed and incredulous at how reasonable Christian believers can carry this Treasure of Heaven inside them - the Light, the Knowledge, the Love and the excellency and extremity of the Power of God - and yet barely be distinguishable from those without faith or hope.
Can we blame unbelievers for disdaining Christians who so little express, or hardly believe, the magnificent promises we purport to carry? How shall the world see? How shall they know?
Are we not those on whom God’s letter is written - to be read of all men? Are we not those by whose mouths the oracles of Heaven must be heralded? Are we not those whose eyes and hands and words are the avenue on which Jesus’ healing, deliverance and salvation ride? Are we not God’s opportunity to be plainly seen in the earth?
Let's fall in love again with the Lord of the Dance - the radiant and dazzling Troubadour of eternal Joy. Let’s run from cold-heartedness and unbelief. Let’s cry to our Father and Savior for fresh and fearless faith. That we might abide in Him, relish Him, be filled again with the urgency of His intentions, and unite with His passion to rescue the children for whom His blood flowed, for whom His heart perpetually yearns.
